The end of a year -

And yet another year is coming to an end and has anything really changed? While everyone gets ready for an evening of boozing and schmoozing on the town I sit and wait and hope that maybe this year things will change and get better but I am not holding my breath -

now don get me wrong I am not sitting or wallowing in any self pity I am actually relieved to be here with my family peacefully awaiting 2007 in all its splendor and glory. I look forward to new challenges and opportunities  and am excited to see what will come from the year ahead.

But as I said above I am not really one for celebrating the New Year ?not enough has been done to combat poverty, illuminate aids or stop the ice caps from melting?So why should I celebrate? Because it normal? Because it expected? Because what!

I will celebrate when things get done, when global warming is no longer a worry and when carbon emissions are back down at a healthy level, when we find a new, cleaner and more effective way of powering our cities and much loved house hold car and when there a cure for Caner or HIV/AIDS or both? When will these crucial things be done?

2006 has seen plenty ?

On a more personal note I saw one of my oldest and dearest friends move half way round the world ?I would like to wish her the best of times and good luck in this coming year.

To everyone else ?the year is what you make of it. Live it. Love it. Remember it.

A society of acquaintances

The lament of loneliness is one of the most common anthems of our time. We fill our schedules with wall-to-wall events and pack in meeting after meeting, phone call after fax response. But despite all the people and all the activity, we so rarely connect deeply with others. We have become a society of clients more than colleagues... acquaintances more than friends.
